Trade shows are their own world — filled with unique processes, insider lingo, rigging and creativity. If you have been following along with our new series, “Do You Speak Trade Show?”, you have already seen how much happens before the doors even open. We took you along with us to SC24 in Atlanta, GA. Did you miss an episode? We’ve got your recap below.
Episode 1: The Install Begins
The trade show floor will look calm and pristine on show day, but the booth installation is a different story. Crates are opened, forklifts are zipping by, and install teams are turning bare floors into branded spaces.
What we covered:
- Floor was laid down and covered with visqueen to protect it.
- Riggers are rigging hanging signs and structures are being built.
There is a lot more work behind the scenes than you would think! Every great booth starts with a creative team and an organized/meticulous install team.
Episode 2: Install Lingo
Trade shows have their own language, and understanding the lingo can be a game-changer! From visqueen (floor protection) to rigging (hanging heavy signage), knowing this language will ensure a successful booth install.
What we covered:
- Terms like visqueen and rigging
- Just throw your trash on the floor. Yes, you heard us right. There are no trash cans on the show floor during installation. Need to throw something away? Just drop it where you are and walk away without feeling guilty. We promise you won’t get fined.
- Wood crates and pallets line the trade show floor. Watch where you’re walking! The crates and pallets are designed to protect your booth materials during shipping and storage.
Speaking and understanding trade show lingo will have you feeling like a pro on the trade show floor.
Episode 3: Rigging
Have you ever wondered how all of the impressive hanging signs and custom pieces are hung over a booth? They result from creative trade show booth ideas, planning, and expert riggers.
What we covered:
- You can pretty much rig anything to the ceiling
- Proper rigging ensures safety and brand visibility throughout the hall
Rigging can be used creatively to elevate your booth. It’s all about elevating your brand — literally.
Episode 4: Finishing an Install with Perfection
As the booth install winds down, the details become the focus. The install isn’t just about assembling the trade show exhibit but ensuring every element is flawless and the branding is perfect. Meticulous is the name of the game.
What we covered:
- The importance of attention to detail at the end of an install
- Be as meticulous as you possibly can. wipe counters, sweep, vacuum, straighten chairs, etc.
- Help your client in any way you can. How can I make the booth look as pristine as possible? How can I support my client to make their show a hit?
Great booths have great attention to detail. Don’t let the craziness of the show floor distract you from doing everything you can to make the booth look perfect for the floor and your client.
